AWS: Innovating at Scale

Summary
How do you bake innovation into your organisational DNA?
Innovation is a core competency and key differentiator for software companies of all sizes but can be a challenge to fit in around customer demands and other short-term business priorities. Coming out of COVID-19, many organisations have proven that, when bureaucratic processes are relaxed, true innovation is achievable for sustained periods of time across the entire business.
The AWS ExecLeaders community has touched upon innovation previously, talking about it as something to be fitted in around “Business as Usual”. But how should we talk about the relationship between continuous refinements to the existing offerings or business models, and innovation? What are the differences, if any? Equally, where does innovation sit within increasingly common transformation programmes?
One thing is certain - there is a need for greater speed; a more agile operating model. Our theme and discussion point for our next gathering is the idea of “institutional innovation” and how to build this muscle for ongoing business growth.
Over the evening our groups will talk about:
- Understanding threats and turning them into opportunities
- Reinventing the business value proposition to include a more agile approach to new ideas
- Looking at different processes or business models as a new way of creating differentiation
